Preventive pesticide research and development is the main strategy of the country



The Ministry of Agriculture has clearly proposed to achieve zero growth in the use of fertilizers and pesticides for major crops in China by 2020. But to achieve this goal, the most important link is the innovation of products and application technology, changing the previous focus on the occurrence of pests and diseases from pre prevention, and maximizing the prevention and control of various crop pests and diseases with the minimum amount of pesticide use.

Therefore, it is recommended to elevate the research and development of preventive pesticides to a national strategic level, concentrate and integrate social research and development resources and forces, accelerate the development of various environmentally friendly insecticides, fungicides, and herbicides that meet the requirements of the times and the needs of the planting industry, and provide effective support for achieving zero growth of pesticides.

As of 2015, China's grain production has maintained a continuous increase for 12 years, feeding about 1/4 of the world's population with 1/7 of the world's arable land. This is a remarkable achievement, and fertilizers and pesticides are indispensable. In this sense, we can fully say that without fertilizers and pesticides, there would be no food security, let alone food security.

However, it is undeniable that due to the low technological content of agricultural and chemical products in China, especially the excessive use of high toxicity and residue pesticides in the planting industry, they pose a threat to the food safety of the people through food and cash crops. At the same time, due to the backward application technology of farmers, the utilization rate of pesticides is too low, and a large amount of pesticides flow into the environment, causing serious non-point source pollution. Therefore, maintaining and improving the ecological environment is urgent.

In this context, the pesticide industry must rely on technological means to achieve product innovation, pesticide application innovation, and service innovation. To achieve the goal of zero growth in pesticide use within 5 years proposed by the Ministry of Agriculture, pesticide production enterprises must resolutely abandon the past practices of "waiting, relying, and demanding", and within their capabilities, pay attention to the combination of existing varieties, improve drug efficacy, and reduce the frequency of pesticide use by farmers; Pay attention to the development of new dosage forms, expand the scope of drug use, cover various crops and cash crops as much as possible, simplify farmers' medication labor and save costs. At the same time, attention should also be paid to improving service links, providing as much field guidance as possible, and achieving the goal of reducing dosage and protecting the environment through scientific pesticide application.
